The Coffee Shop Chronicles: Still pouring!

in The Coffee Shop Chronicles

I can almost see my desk!  Still have some entries into our contest, The Coffee Shop Chronicles which came to an end the first of May.  Here is quick cup, one of two, from Danielle LeFevre.  She calls it flash fiction.  Is that something like instant coffee?  Maybe somebody will explain what flash fiction is to me in the comment box.  Thanks Danielle!  If your entry has not yet appeared, please drop us a line and let us know.

Coffee All Around

“Go get out the coffee pot for your grandmother.”

“How come we only have coffee when she’s here?”

“Because she’s the only one who likes it, brewed at home. I prefer to drink my breakfast from Starbucks.”

“Ugh, mom, seriously. Starbucks?”

“Venti Peppermint Mocha. They even know me now.”

“Nice. But that’s not actually coffee. That’s sugar with some coffee packet flavoring. I’m not sure I blame grandma for wanting something here, even if it’s instant.”

“Well I didn’t always drink Starbucks. It wasn’t around when I was little. I can remember sitting in my own grandmother’s kitchen, and she would always ask me if I wanted some coffee. She would pour in mostly milk, with plenty of sugar, and then just a dash of coffee. I loved that. I still think of her kitchen whenever I taste good coffee.”

“You mean sugar and milk.”

“I mean everything that goes into a cup of coffee. All of it.”

“I’ll grab the milk, you grab the sugar. I’ll let grandma know we’re all having coffee today.”

Three generations of coffee. Three different takes. One family. That's all we need in the end =)
  • Thank you for taking the time to read and comment! I feel odd calling you Star5, although I'm good with it if you are! Is there anything else I should call you, in thanks?

As the restraining order against me from Robert Pattinson is kicking in as of tomorrow, I can no longer go by Mrs. Pattinson. So feel free to call me by my given name, Stefanie =) I answer to that name most and hey, I live up to being a "crowned one" <3
  • Ahaha, Stefanie it is :) Nice to meet you!
  • Jamie
Aha, I found it! Congratulations Danielle. Thorn, you really have no idea how excited she is about being in here. I too, thank you for posting her pieces. Danielle, nice job and with your abbreviated time line, it's even better! And you're right, so much more goes into each cup of coffee!
  • How could I not? Nicely paced and original. Like you, I might add. By the way, Danielle is my daughters middle name.
  • It's a beautiful name! Thank you so much Jamie, and I am so thrilled!!
  • Thanks so much Thorn for publishing this!!
  • Oh yeah? We'll I guess I will just have to post the other one. Lemme put the cat out and I'll get right on it. Which one are you in the picture? In my picture I am the one on the left
  • I'm also on the left in my picture :) It's apparently the place to be! Hope the cat doesn't give you too much trouble... I've been cat sitting this week and have only recently discovered the joys and sorrows of owning felines.
  • But not long enough to realize the feline owns you! I agree about the left. Left bank, left over, left brain, left tenant's woman, and, on my facebook political views"First star to the left, straight on til morning" that's about right(oops, left)
  • Haha! Did you know that a statistically significant number of Presidents have been left-handed? Left rules the world, turns out :)
  • I did not know that. I thought they were under-handed
  • Star5fallonmyheart
    You're thinking of Clinton there.
  • "I did not have text with that woman!"
