Actually, that is a complete fabrication, but now that you are reading this, here is something from Ben.  I am most interested to see your comments regarding these  maxims of Poor Richard, which I rescued from a very old volume.  Comment on any one of these three:

“You cannot pluck roses without fear of thorns,
nor enjoy a wife, without danger of horns.”

“He that falls in love with himself will have no rivals.”

…and finally:

“He that scatters thorns, let him not go barefoot.”

Care to comment?  Perhaps a story that proves these true?

And why would I be thinking of Ben Franklin?  Because we are giving his portrait to the winner of our contest, “CatTales.”   Here are the details, in case you’ve forgotten:

I don't get it. Does “horns” refer to ovaries? (they look kind of like horns) …or does it mean, that when you really love someone, trumpet-trombone-saxophone jazz trios will follow you wherever you go?

I notice 2 out of the 3 have your shorter name in it. Which might explain the second quote you picked =D

I think horns refer to the horns of plenty, a cornucopulate. I wonder if that's what Ben meant, frankly. Wait A minute! That's it! The Ben Frankly Meant where all those coins are pressed and dollars printed!

You cannot be submissive to a husband who isn't fair, you'll regret the marriage always if you insist upon the dare! pd

“You cannot pluck roses without fear of thorns,
nor enjoy a wife, without danger of horns.”

The roses part translated to me as being able to approach things of beauty even though it might cause pain, and the second part about if you have a wife, be prepared for some tough times ahead.

I sing to life…and to its tragic beauty…to pain and to strife…and all that dances through me–the rise and the fall…I've lived through it all…

“He that scatters thorns, let him not go barefoot.”

I say let him go barefoot. Teach him a lesson he'll never forget.

“He that falls in love with himself will have no rivals.”

…And he'll only have one cheerleader through life.

Well, those are my two cents…well, I commented on all of them, so I guess it's 6 cents =) Is it tax deductible?

It's obvious that if you try and pluck the beauty from something, that you'll get ensnared by thorns. I don't even know what to say about the wife and the horns. You'll have to ask my Dave. And the one who scatters thorn, he should indeed have to go barefoot and pull out every thorn at the end.
