Hello all.

It appears as if our server will function to let us post the stories that have collected in Santa’s stocking, which is really quite a feet. We are still having relationship issues, however, and can’t seem to be able to upload images for each posting, or install captions.   The elves are on it.  In the picture (if the picture does post) you can see thorn (the intelligent looking tall one with the white bead) Derek, (one of the other one’s with a white beard but not quite as tall) Gary (the one with a white beard dreaming of exchanging Rudolf for a one-ton bull called “Toxic Waste”) and Morgan (the one with the white beard plotting to take over the dynasty that is A Word with You Press).

Alas, the posting elf (moi) is going to need a few days to recover from the Christmas merriment, so we will have our Christmas lights on very low voltage until the first of the year, at which point we will turn up the amperage again, and be at full capacity. Because of this latest glitch, the second in two months, we are extending the deadline for our contest to January 15th.  He are the rules for our contest Of Knights and Knaves: www.awordwithyoupress.com/contests/

Over the last year, I (along with the steadfast Derek and the studfast Gary)have had the privilege of garnering your stories, posting them, and watching as kindred spirits do their, well, kindering.  Computers and cyberspace may be an abstract, even artificial, but I swear that the intensity and passion that is shared on this site is authentic, that the friendships this site has engendered, are every bit as real as those relationships created by physical presence.

All of us at the Word, meaning Derek, Morgan, Gary, Diana, the Satikushes and myself wish you a wonderful Christmas and a year long happy new year.

I hope that Santa’s elves can fix the technical difficulties that have plagued the server of this site;as you can see it is not functioning as it should, and of course, it has impacted our delivery of your contest entries.  We’ll tag an extra week for you to submit stories, making Jan. 10, 2012! the final date in which we will receive your entries.

Stuff with breadcrumbs, celery, onions, butter,cilantro, walnuts, dried canberries and even bacon. World peace will follow.

All pain diminishes on Thanksgiving, but only for those who are truly thankful.

I want to thank all of you who have helped create this community for giving me cause to be overwhelmed with gratitude for Thanksgiving Day.  Some of you I have met, or will meet.  Some of you are creatures of cyberspace, and I may never get close enough to know what you smell like, and some of you have actually helped me create this site, this conduit to another persons”s soul.  Derek, Gary, Morgan, Dianna, Teri, Monika, Shawna, and others.

Is it possible to condense my gratitude into a single day?  I  think not.  Just know that I am grateful, and that I love.

After a brief hiatus, we have returned from the interwebs and were able to go in to the deepest recesses of our server and squash some of those bugs (after spraying them).

It turns out that some of our dear readers and editors might have been carrying a few viruses too.  The virus that infected our server may be still be lurking on your computer somewhere.  If you get a moment, be sure to run a virus scan on your computer.   Might also be a good time to check and update/document your passwords to be safe – after all, we don’t want our imposter returning!

Here are some other tips to keep yourself safe:

1. Run regular virus scans.  On a PC, try Avast: free.avg.com/us-en/free-downloads
2. Create a good password.   Get ideas on new passwords (and protecting/remembering them!) here.
3. Set 2-step authentication when possible on email, bank accounts and social networks: www.google.com/goodtoknow/online-safety/security-tools/

Due to the recent rape and pillage of our website by hackers, we are forced to take precautionary measures that require us to temporarily take our site off line. One of our regulars (thank you, Julie Mark Cohen) discovered that when you google A Word with You Press, there is a notice that appears that states the site may have been compromised.  Corrective measures need to be taken, not with the website itself, but with the server, and the best estimate is that this will require at least 30 manhours.

We are going to take the site off-line starting this evening, and will re-boot on November 15th.  We will suspend our current contest.  You will still be able to submit entries, and I can still receive emails at thorn@awordwithyoupress.com, and we will stack contest submissions in line to present after the relaunch.  We will extend the deadline to submit entries until November 18th.

Not only was I hacked and everyone one (almost everyone) on my website received a plea begging you each to send money to rescue me in Scotland, but it appears about 700 of my email addresses disappeared as well, so I could not contact people to warn them. I DO NOT have a problem if people want to send me money.  I DO have a problem if they are sending the money to Scotland, where I have never been!  So please forgive the fact that the last few days we have not posted any more of the wonderful entries you have submitted for our contest Simon Says: 50 ways or One hundred Words to Leave Your Lover!
