I, and my contemporaries, know many hideous brats such as this. My best friend has two younger siblings, who are 8 respectively. As sweet as they are, they definitely have an odd view of presents at birthdays and christmas time, a view my friend does not have. So what’s different?

If I didn’t appear very grateful (ok, inside I may not have liked my gift but this does happen) and say thank you for everything I got my parents would have been incredibly cross. A tantrum on Christmas day? Non-existant for us. Because we knew it simply wasn’t allowed.

Now it isn’t just the children at fault. It is their parents. If your child gets something they don’t ‘want’ and they spit out their proverbial dummy and start crying, and you comfort them and promise them more, I have no respect for you. It is disgraceful behaviour, especially at a time when so many have so little.

Without doubt, my little neice will get a book from me every year. And I know my down to earth sister will bring her up properly to be very grateful for everything she has. Good old Haze.

Well, I’m sure lots of people out there are very tight this year. Aren’t well all.

Well, I’m sure lots of people out there are very tight this year. Aren’t well all.

I’m not sure if the controversy crossed the seas, but in the UK a store called Littlewoods got in a whole heap of trouble by showing an advert that was so materialistic it made lots of people sick. It showed little kids of about 4 or 5 singing about the ridiculously expensive presents their mums were getting them. Grim. No mention of Santa, no. It’s down to you mums. Grandad wants a laptop (a laptop?!!), the kids want games consoles and piles of toys, and you buy designer jewellery for yourself. Don’t expect anyone else you get you anything, you get it for yourself you lazy woman. The gifts in the advert add up to nearly £3000. I don’t know about you, but I know of no families who will be spending £3000 on presents on Christmas, especially not on a laptop for grandad.

Hideous. Littlewoods- shame on you.

Christmas is the time to snuggle up with the family or friends, munch some naughty food, and generally enjoy being with people. It is not about turning small children into spoilt brats.

So why not make a present this year? Biscuits are always good. Mine don’t look pretty, but they’re blimmin’ tasty. Nom nom. Or how about a photo album of awesome pictures? Or a funny painted mug? You don’t have to spend a fortune to show people you love ‘em.

So I know many people, girls and guys, who have sat in surgeries and been bluntly told they are overweight or underweight, by a fat nurse/doctor. That is it. Look at the numbers. You must be fat/anorexic. You should do exercise while I eat a Mars bar.

It is never so simple. I know a copper (policeman that is) who is incredibly, ridiculously tall. He is rather muscley, and by no means fat or unhealty. But doctors have been telling him for years he is obese. If he lost any weight he would look ill, and also find his work incredibly hard. But how can the numbers lie ey.

I know girls who have nipped to the nurse to get the pill and come out in tears having been told they are obese. Girls who are size 12, looking a hell of a lot better than me. Told they are fat by a VERY FAT nurse. And we wonder why so many people have issues with food, one way or the other.

One girl I know eats nothing but fast food and chocolate. Loves the stuff. She is as skinny as a stick (I know, I hate those people too) but I know it will catch up with her. But because her weight is ‘normal’ she is left alone. She is ‘healthy’. What rubbish.

It is not hard for a nurse to take a few moments to ask a patient if they exercise, if they have been unwell lately, how they eat. Maybe they can then judge people a little better, rather then staring at their blimmin’ charts throwing out damaging words such as ‘obese’ or ‘anorexic’. I realise some people ARE over or underweight and perhaps they need the tough love, but a lot of people teeter on each side. It only takes a negative word from an authority figure like that to tip them over the edge. Especially if the person telling you to lose weight is much, much bigger than you.

Being a sensitive human being as well as doing your job isn’t asking much, is it?

As with Wuss and Boots, I jest of course. As if I would turn away anyone with cake. But do I roar because I am freaked at becoming 25, or because I am rather hungover from the celebrations the night before? I’ll let you decide.

I bloody love Derren Brown, what a legend. Wuss doesn’t have his powers, but he will keep on trying.
